[HanCinema's News] Lee Ga-eun Returns as Actress Following Musical Scandal

On December 3rd the omnibus film "Motelier" was released to on-demand services. The sexually themed comedy is framed as a series of vignettes told by podcast. In contrast to most erotic South Korean movies, which are aimed toward older audiences, "Motelier" is directed at 20-30 year old audiences. This fact is made especially obvious by the surprising choice of lead actress- Lee Ga-eun, who is better known as a singer for her association with After School.

Lee Ga-eun has also been in the public eye lately for reasons unrelated to her recent shift toward an acting career. Lee Ga-eun was among the many victims in the Produce 48 scandal. On November 18th a full list of victims was released who had their voting totals on the singing competition show manipulated in such a way their elimination was guaranteed. When asked for comment on the matter, Lee Ga-eun's agency High Entertainment replied with a statement of no comment.

High Entertainment is new representation for Lee Ga-eun. Her last solo song was released in July of the previous year. After that, she left Pledis Entertainment. It is unknown what specific motivation may have had for doing so, although the switch appears to coincide with Lee Ga-eun deciding to stop releasing music to instead focus on acting. She is also active on social media, and has a YouTube channel with over 39,000 subscribers.
