Earlier this month Lee Shin-young was wrapped up in a bullying controversy when online rumors suggested that he menaced other students while in middle school. The rumor died down when other classmates of Lee Shin-young chimed in, saying that they did not recall him engaging in such actions.
So the announcement on February 20th by Lee Shin-young's agency, Forest Entertainment, that he was pursuing legal action against the source of the rumor came as quite a surprise.
This was no mere warning. The defendant in question was cited as breaking a specific segment of South Korean law regards blackmail, and has a known identity that is currently being protected, as they are not a celebrity. Though at the close of the rumor the person in question had acknowledged fault and apologized, according to Forest Entertainment their behavior has made a turn-around and is again insisting the incident happened.
At the time, Forest Entertainment and Lee Shin-young had accepted the apology and agreed to not press charges in recognition of the now-defendant's apparent sincerity. According to Forest Entertainment the turnaround happened on February 6th, with the apology previously having been known to occur on February 4th. Lee Shin-young just completed "Crash Landing on You" on February 16th. His role, though minor, had greatly elevated his profile thanks to the drama's exceptional popularity.
