On December 7th an interview was released wherein Nam Joo-hyuk talks about his starring role in the upcoming film "Josee". In the movie, the titular Josee is played by Han Ji-min, but the perspective character is Young-seok, who is played by Nam Joo-hyuk. The story of their happy time together is based on the 2003 Japanese movie Josee, the Tiger and the Fish, which itself is based on the Japanese novel of the same name.

Nam Joo-hyuk admitted frankly that he was concerned about doing proper justice to the original version. But at the same time, Nam Joo-hyuk mentioned that from the outset, director Kim Jong-kwan made it clear that they were making their own version, similar in tone with distinct changes. Nam Joo-hyuk was offered the role in that spirit of challenge, to try and create something different.
According to Nam Joo-hyuk, his performance in "Josee" is based on his assumptions of how a normal person would react to the situations created by the scenario. This is in contrast to attempts to either trade on or subvert his branding. Nam Joo-hyuk described his technique as being similar to trying to act out the events of a documentary, with an intense focus on realism.
Nam Joo-hyuk said that he was proud of his work upon seeing the completed film, and that he regrets nothing. Nam Joo-hyuk believes that he and Han Ji-min very naturally depicted a thawing relationship between two individuals who often struggle to properly communicate. "Josee" will be released in South Korean theaters on December 10th.
