[HanCinema's News] NEW Unveils Ambitious Eleven Film Lineup

On April 1st the film production company NEW (Next Entertainment World) released their official upcoming lineup of eleven films. While these movies had all been referenced in previous reports, this was the first comprehensive look at them including production stills and theatrical posters. The move follows the announcement of a deal with Library Pictures International in March to help finance these movies.

Hwang Jung-min in "Hostage: Missing Celebrity"

"Hostage: Missing Celebrity" is among the more unusual projects in the spotlight, starring chronic box office draw Hwang Jung-min as himself, in a realistic thriller where the actor is kidnapped. According to writer/director Pil Kam-sung, the project is envisioned as a roller coaster of various sentiments.

Park So-dam in "Special Delivery"

Elsehwere, Park So-dam will play the lead in the criminal action thriller "Special Delivery" where she plays an ace delivery driver. There, writer/director Park Dae-min has promised she will show a new, cool side.

Ryu Seung-ryong in "Perhaps Love"

"Perhaps Love" remains a working title, and is an atypical romantic comedy starring a wide field of performers led by Ryu Seung-ryong. The project is the first feature film from director Jo Eun-ji, and based on her award-winning short movie Two Days and Three Nights.

"Soulmate"

The sentimental "Soulmate" from director Min Yong-keun will tell the story of three young teenagers from the retrospective of their present day selves. The women-centric drama is based on the Chinese film of the same title.

"Handsome Guys" will have a more mascline take, and is being presented as a weird comedy where the titular pretty men will come face to face with the true versions of themselves. "The Witch : Part 2. The Other One" is the last of the confirmed films to be accompanied by a theatrical poster. The sequel to "The Witch : Part 1. The Subversion" will have Kim Da-mi reprise her role as a sinister product of a mass experiment to produce telekinetically powered child soldiers.

"Smugglers" cast

The remaining five films now have more confirmed cast. The seventies era women's crime film "Smugglers" will feature Zo In-sung and Park Jung-min in addition to Kim Hye-soo and Yum Jung-ah as the leads.

The superpowered "Hi.5" by Kang Hyeong-cheol which is still a working title will feature Lee Jae-in, Yoo Ah-in, Ahn Jae-hong, Ra Mi-ran, Kim Hee-won, and Oh Jung-se among the cast.

Ra Mi-ran will also return for "An Honest Candidate 2" which is the sequel to "An Honest Candidate" from 2020. Kim Mu-yeol and Yoon Kyung-ho will also reprise their roles from the first political film. It is unclear whether "An Honest Candidate 2" will also be an adaptation of the original Brazilian film's sequel. Elsewhere the legal drama "The Land of Happiness" which is also a working title will star Cho Jung-seok as lawyer Jeong In-hoo. Lastly, "The Night Owl" will star Choi Min-sik as King Injo, and Ryu Jun-yeol as Kyeong-soo, an acupuncturist who learns the king's terrible secret.
