[HanCinema's News] "Parasyte: The Grey" Hits Number One on Netflix Leaderboard

According to FlixPatrol, the recently released South Korean series "Parasyte: The Grey" is now the most popular television show worldwide on Netflix. The adaptation of the comic by Hitoshi Iwaaki deals with aliens who arrive on Earth and overtake the bodies of whatever human or other animals they first come into contact with, effectively turning their hosts into shapeshifters. The creature feature is the latest from director Yeon Sang-ho who has come to specialize in such work.

The Japanese comics origins of "Parasyte: The Grey" have given the show a broader audience than is typical for South Korean shows on Netflix. Many regions in the Americas have the series as their number one drama. These include Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guadeloupe, Honduras, Jamaica, Martinique, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Reunion, Salvador, Trinidad and Tobago, and Venezuela.

"Parasyte: The Grey" is also popular in the usual Asian markets where South Korean series tend to do well. These include Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Qatar, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, the United Arab Emirates, and Vietnam. In Africa, "Parasyte: The Grey" is also the number one Netflix series in Kenya, Mauritius, and Nigeria. The sole European number one is Slovakia. "Parasyte: The Grey" was released worldwide on April 5th.
