On October 28th actress Park Si-eun and her husband, Jin Tae-hyun, announced on Instagram that they had adopted a daughter. They described having met her on their honeymoon in August of 2015 at an orphanage. At the time she was a high school student, and had since been calling them aunt and uncle. However, since her matriculation to a college in Seoul she had been living with the couple at their home, hence the need for a formal adoption.
According to the couple they were already a family by that point. Further text emphasized the couple's resolve to become parents and that whatever problems would come up in the future would be faced by the three of them as a family. They also emphasized that the adoption was not something they had intended to keep a secret. However, as their daughter was not a celebrity, there was no reason for them to discuss her publicly until recently.
Since their first meeting in 2015 the girl who Park Si-eun and Jin Tae-hyun adopted would come up to Seoul to visit them on her school vacations. During this time they shopped and traveled together as a family normally would. Additionally, her moving in with the couple was a long planned event.
Park Si-eun and Jin Tae-hyun also have a relationship with the orphanage where their daughter came from. They described children from the orphanage, which is located on Jeju Island, as coming up to Seoul for fun every so often. As was the case with the girl they later adopted, these children refer to Park Si-eun and Jin Tae-hyun as aunt and uncle.
Park Si-eun and Jin Tae-hyun making a formal announcement like this makes them the latest celebrities known to have adopted children. Cha In-pyo and Shin Ae-ra are another celebrity couple who are known to have adopted. Lee Ah-hyun has also engaged in the practice, as has Hong Suk-chun, suggesting increased positive public perception of the practice.
Park Si-eun and Jin Tae-hyun have also attracted attention for choosing to use their honeymoon as a means to engage in charitable work. The actors first met on the set of "Pumpkin Flower" in 2010. Park Si-eun is currently appearing in "Everybody Says Kkungdari" and Jin Tae-hyun last appeared in "Left-handed Wife" earlier this year.
