[HanCinema's News] Pastor Publishes Letter Comparing "The Witch : Part 1. the Subversion" to Pressure Faced by Korean Children

On April 30th pastor Oh Yun Taek of the Daegu Best Holiness Church published a letter in the Kukmin Ilbo. The letter starts out with a quote from "The Witch : Part 1. The Subversion", which reads that I was frightened of your children with strange powers and didn't want to raise them. I wanted to send you back out and not keep you here. I could not be your mother. But you were still children. Just like any other children. And so I wanted to raise you to be pretty.

The pastor then explains how the children had these powers from genetics. He then emphasizes the line about wanting to make the children pretty, and the compares that mindset with that of stage parents who become obsessed with turning their apparently talented children into entertainment stars.

The pastor warns that, much like the movie, such a superficial process raises the risk of creating young adults without feeling or empathy. He notes that this is why the children in the movies are apparently evil witches, more than the supernatural powers they possess.

The pastor then closed by exhorting parents to always be proud and happy for their children. The reasoning being, that this is what children want to hear.
