On April 1st, the chief of Seoul police apologized to Yoon Ji-oh for their failure to secure her safety. He promised that going forward she would be under twenty-four hour protection. Yoon Ji-oh has consistently stated that she has concerns for her own safety for trying to raise awareness and speak out about what she knows in regards to the death of Jang Ja-yeon.
Yoon Ji-oh had already employed private security for this reason. However, after a successful petition campaign, Yoon Ji-oh was given an official Smart Watch. The Smart Watch is supposed to send a distress signal to the nearest police if pressed for more than 1.5 seconds. Yoon Ji-oh expressed criticism of her watch on an official government message board after she was unable to prove that it actually worked.
The police chief promised an investigation to determine the cause of the apparent malfunction. It has not been confirmed whether the residence Yoon Ji-oh was staying at was actually attacked.
