[HanCinema's News] "SEOBOK" Tops South Korean Box Office

According to figures released by the Korean Film Council, "SEOBOK" easily led at the South Korean box office for its first three days of release. With no real competition from new films, "SEOBOK" is likely to sweep the full weekend figures as well. However, the exact numbers are less than impressive. "SEOBOK" has only managed to break the 100,000 admissions mark in its first three days. Breaking 200,000 admissions will likely take more time beyond the first weekend, if it happens at all.

Though these numbers are poor even in the COVID-19 depressed South Korean film market, they do not tell the full story. "SEOBOK" has been heavily marketed as having a same day IPTV premiere for the streaming service's subscribers. It is unknown how many people watched "SEOBOK" on that platform. Nevertheless the numbers are a bit of a shock for a project led by Gong Yoo and Park Bo-gum, both major stars in their own right for the science fiction thriller. "SEOBOK" was released on April 15th.
