[HanCinema's News] Shin Se-kyung Talks About her Return to Historical Dramas

Shin Se-kyung is returning to historical dramas with "Rookie Historian Goo Hae-ryung", where she plays a woman who struggles to be a scholar in the patriarchal Joseon era. The "Six Flying Dragons" and "Deep-rooted Tree" star recently did a photo shoot and interview in Singles where she talks about why she chose the role.

In short, Shin Se-kyung says the protagonist appealed to her because she is not drawn to typical characters. Shin Se-kyung said that the script itself felt fresh, and that not just her character, but the whole story felt very well-rounded and fun. She mentioned liking the sparkling roots of the conflict and also the great expectations that created.
Shin Se-kyung also cited Charlize Theron's performance from the 2003 American film Monster as being a key inspiration. Shin Se-kyung thought Charlize Theron's feminine sparkle there was very cool. Her point seemed to be that the unconventional nature of the character was what made her interesting, as there is obviously not much in common with that role and Shin Se-kyung's role in "Rookie Historian Goo Hae-ryung".
