[HanCinema's News] "The Roundup" Breaks Five Million Viewer Mark

On May 27th actor Ma Dong-seok made a post to his Instagram account commemorating "The Roundup" breaking the five million viewer mark at the South Korean box office. He thanked fans for making "The Roundup" the first film to do so since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Technically speaking "The Roundup" is the third film to have accomplished this feat, but it is the first and so far only South Korean film to do so.

Ma Dong-seok also claimed that his co-stars beat a fifteen thousand to one audition to earn their roles, and that with talent of this quality he fully expects to be able to finish third and fourth installments of the franchise. While "The Roundup: No Way Out" is already confirmed, it is unclear whether Ma Dong-seok was referencing actual plans for a fourth movie or merely emphasizing confidence in the power of his friendship with his co-stars. Ma Dong-seok requested support for their future endeavors.

Ma Dong-seok also took a moment in the post to explicitly praise Nam Moon-chul, a co-star who died from colon cancer last year. Ma Dong-seok claimed it was an act of honor and respect to observe him in action. "The Roundup" was Nam Moon-chul's last film. "The Roundup" is the sequel to "The Outlaws" from 2017, and deals with a squad of police and informants working to track down a murderer of Korean tourists in Vietnam.
