On September 26th "The Singer" released footage of the cast and crew first meeting each other at a special introductory event on September 17th. The event was held in anticipation of September 23rd, the day the Joseon era musical film started filming. The historical drama stars Lee Yu-ri, Kim Dong-hwan, and Kim Min-jun in the leading roles as persons associated with traditional pansori music.

In the footage the actors and director can be seen commenting about the film to try and hype up their co-workers. Lee Yu-ri describes the environment as warm-hearted while Lee Bong-eun expressed hope that they could all make a quintessentially Korean family movie.

Kim Dong-hwan also commented on the colorful party atmosphere, describing this as an auspicious start for the production. Kim Min-jun said it was an honor to make a musical pansori movie with director Cho Jung-rae. Director Cho Jung-rae for his part expressed joy that they could all discuss the movie so openly and expressed hope that they could make the movie together with one heart.

"The Singer" is director Cho Jung-rae's return to feature film having made "Spirits' Homecoming" back in 2014. The crowdfunded period drama about teenage girls forced to become comfort women was a surprise hit. "The Singer" is expected in South Korean theaters sometime in 2020.
