Sales from January to September last year already reached W762.6 billion, up 7.8 percent on-year. Supposing that the trend continued they will have exceeded W1 trillion for the entire year.

Chamisul has been the country's bestselling soju since it was launched 18 years ago. Not every distiller discloses sales data, but Chamisul is estimated to hold a whopping 50 percent of the domestic market.

Some 1.7 billion 360-ml bottles of Chamisul were made last year, according to HiteJinro, which translates into a whopping 42 bottles per Korean adult.
