[Hot Takes from the Noonas] Ku Hye-sun's acting under fire again

2017/03/06 | 12833 views | Permalink

Ku Hye-sun is being criticized for her awkward acting in "You're Too Much", her first drama since "Blood". Not even the good will generated by her marriage and popular reality show can soften the blow.

After Ku Hye-sun was criticized for her acting in 2015's "Blood" and she took the fall for its ratings failure, her public image appeared to be revived by marriage to her "Blood" co-star, Ahn Jae-hyun in May 2016. This was followed by a reality show about their marriage, "Newlywed Diary" that was released on tvN earlier this year.

Ku Hye-sun returned to acting this past Saturday with the drama, "You're Too Much" and Korean web portal, Nate quickly posted an opinion piece that accused Ku Hye-sun of acting so broad that it jarred viewers out of the story. Korean netizens appear to agree with the writer.

One can't help, but feel bad for Ku Hye-sun. It must have been a long road to a drama comeback after "Blood" and to be met with immediate criticism upon your return is disheartening. What I don't understand is why Ku Hye-sun did not spend the interim period between "Blood" and "You're Too Much" taking acting lessons to address whatever problems were pointed out to her. She was humble enough to publicly apologize for the failure of "Blood" even though she should not have been entirely to blame. Presumably, Ku Hye-sun should not have been too proud to take the criticism.

"You're Too Much" is 50 episodes long and appears to follow the live shoot format. If producers stick by Ku Hye-sun, she will have the opportunity to improve and win back viewers. Regardless of the punishing film schedule, Ku Hye-sun must be proactive about addressing the criticism, because this drama will either make or break her career.
