Indonesian Director Joko ANWAR Proves Popular Favourite at PIFAN

Joko ANWAR's The Forbidden Door was awarded the 'Best of Puchon' award at this year's 2009 PIFAN. The director is fast becoming a favourite at PIFAN after his film Kala closed last year's festival. In addition, this year's closing film was another Indonesian film, Merantau by director Gareth Huw Evans. Indonesian film in general is fast becoming the hot cinematic country du jour. Macabre created by the Mo brothers, compared with movies such as Saw, has been making an impact around the world like no other Indonesian horror has. Macabre also played at this year's PIFAN and garnered Indonesian/Singaporean Shareefa Daanish the 'Best Actress' award.

Other winners at this year's PIFAN were Dante Lam from Hong Kong who won 'Best Director' for The Beast Stalker. Also Korean horror The Neighborhood Zombie took both the 'Jury's Choice' and 'Prugio Citizen's Choice' awards. The Pucheon Fantastic International Film Festival wrapped up Sunday the 2th of July.
