[Interview] Shin Ye-eun in "Revenge of Others", From Shooting Guns to Riding Bikes

This is actress Shin Ye-eun's transformation. Shin Ye-eun played the role of Chan-mi, who lost her twin brother, in Disney's OTT service, Disney+ drama "Revenge of Others".

In an interview held at a cafe in Jongno-gu, Seoul on the afternoon of the 5th, Shin Ye-eun said that she became a vitality in acting about the versatile aspect she showed through this work. Shin Ye-eun learned how to shoot and even went to an action school to express her admiration as a high school shooter. She confessed that she gained confidence as an actress through this learning process.

-It's been a while since you've done genre.

"It's been a while since I had an interview like this, too. I'm very nervous and excited. As expected, I think works are the most fun when I do them".

- Chan-mi in "Revenge of Others" is a bit different from the characters you've been playing.

"In reality, I think she looks the most like me. It is a character that was especially comfortable while acting. I thought a lot about it, and I thought the things I thought about and imagined looked like me enough to bloom well".

- What attracted you to choose this work?

"I was immersed in dramas and movies. The work I saw just before receiving this script was "The Uncanny Counter". I was impressed by the setting of receiving notes in the locker, and when I saw "Revenge of Others", I had a similar feeling. Also, I chose it because I wanted to give a big impact because it was my first genre in a long time".

- Have you been yearning to do genre?

"Not exactly. I've done a lot of romantic comedies, but I still have a thirst for romantic comedies. There are still a lot of things I want to show you in that genre. However, since it has been a long time, I wanted to do it without regret. When I look back later, I will definitely see something lacking, but I decided to appear with the thought that I want to show all the abilities I have now".

- Chan-mi is a shooter. How did you prepare for that?

"I practiced a lot. In fact, I couldn't even lift it well at first because the gun was heavy. So I carried dumbbells and did many other exercises. As a result, the muscles in my right arm developed during the "Revenge of Others" and my arms became uneven. I was proud of that, too".

- You were even on a motorcycle in the drama.

"The motorcycle was okay because I rode it during "He Is Psychometric" and I rode a scooter during "More Than Friends". I was very nervous in my previous works, but this time I rode them enough almost to the point where they felt like a part of me. I even turned the bike around to return to the starting point when the 'cut' sign was given.

- You're good at so many things including shooting

I've become more versatile with this work. From the end of last year to this year, I learned various things by doing various works. I played musical instruments, rode boards, rode scooters, and shot guns. I was very happy doing one by one. Originally, I'm a person who stays at home, so I don't go out and do much activities, but thanks to my work, I was able to learn a lot".

- Wasn't it difficult to learn all those things while having to concentrate on acting?

"I've been an MC for "Music Bank" before. It wasn't my main job, but I did my best and enjoyed it. I think it was my own healing time. I love acting, but sometimes it's hard. So shooting and riding scooters and stuff like that made me feel better".

- There are many others your age in "Revenge of Others".

"We could share our opinions comfortably. Another actor thought of something I didn't think of, and I realized that 'every person has different eyes'. I enjoyed the process of gathering different opinions and completing one scene".

- What is "Revenge of Others" to Shin Ye-eun?

It's a work that gave me confidence. Whenever I act, I always worry that I would be trapped in a frame. However, I didn't have such worries while working on this work. I realized that there's no problem even if I do this. I gained confidence and trust that I can express various expressions when I do work in the future.
