IU's One Hundred Million Won Donation Explained by Foundation

2019/04/10 | Permalink | Source

IU donated 100 million won to the Kangwon Kosung district, but was embroiled in a scandal so the charity foundation set out to defend her.

An online community had a post titled, "IU's suspicious donation". The post said, "The damaged areas from the fire are mountainous districts so there are no elementary schools and there are just the elderly who farm and retirees. It's suspicious that she would make a donation to children-related foundations for the recovery of the Kangwon fire damage".

The public agreed to this and the issue expanded. Green Umbrella Children's Foundation where IU made the donation to, made a comment itself.

The foundation said, "We intend to explain the facts in concern over the distortion of the pure will of the donator. This foundation visited the site of damages in Kangwon on the 5th of April and checked the status of the child support damage. In particular, four of the foundation-supported families were in a sad situation where their homes were destroyed in the fire".

"IU is a supporter of the Green Umbrella Children's Foundation, but she's not only supporting this foundation. She's been charitable to various NGO foundations such as her school Dongduk Girl's High School, the Seoul Foundation for the Deaf, Seung-il Foundation of Hope and more. Many supporters including IU have been participating to help the child victims of the Kangwon fire".

"Personal rumors and unidentified information expands into communities and SNS and it leads to distrust of donations and a reduction in the culture of donations. As a result, it creates a sad situation where children in need cannot be helped on time".

IU donated 100 million won to the GUCF on the 5th. Sources from the foundation say the money will be used to help children from low-income families and single-parent families in areas affected by the forest fires. IU made donations of up to 400 million last year too.
