JTBC Turns Webtoons "Itaewon Class" and "Mystic Pop-Up Bar" Into Dramas

Popular webtoons "Itaewon Class" and "Mystic Pop-Up Bar" are becoming dramas on jTBC.

JTBC announced on the 12th that webtoons well known for their novelty and popularity are going to become dramas. The success of such a webtoon drama called "My ID is Gangnam Beauty" proved jTBC's capability, and the synergy between the channel and webtoons creates anticipation.

"Itaewon Class" is helmed by PD Kim Seong-yoon, who will speed up the development and characterization. "Itaewon Class" challenges the story of a young man, who is the son of the president of a major foodservice company, going through his father's death and other obstacles before finally opening his own store in Itaewon. This webtoon first began in December of 2016 and it was an immediate success with its various characters in the backdrop of Itaewon, where every person's values blend together.

"Mystic Pop-Up Bar" tells the various stories that occur in a mysterious street pub late at night. The webtoon was written by Bae Hae-soo and it was acknowledged for its quality with the Grand Prize at the 2017 Korean Comic Awards, and received 9.9 in reviews.

JTBC will continue its success with the jTBC dramas "Chief of Staff", "The Wind Blows", "Be Melodramatic" by PD Lee Byeong-heon from the Box Office hit "Extreme Job", and "A Moment at Eighteen" starring Ong Sung-woo.
