JYJ Junsu to star in musical "Tears of Heaven"

Korean singer Junsu of boy band JYJ will play the male lead of new musical "Tears of Heaven" which will be staged in February of next year, according to Core Contents Media on Sunday.

"Tears of Heaven", an original musical participated by noted Broadway artists such as Frank Wildhorn, the renowned composer of many musical pieces including songs from "Dr. Jekyll and Hyde", and Gabriel Berry who produced film "Sweeney Todd".

Co-headed by local musical producer Seol & Company and Creative Production Co., a subsidiary of Core Contents Media, the play was prepared for three and a half years and by visiting five countries including Hungary, New York, Canada, Czech and Japan.

In the play, Junsu will play a Korean soldier who is dispatched to Vietnam only to fall hopelessly in love with a Vietnamese woman and does everything in his power to help her.

The play's cast will also include famous American musical actor Brad Little, who has starred in number of Broadway musicals including "Phantom of the Opera". He will appear as an American military service and all actors will speak English in the scenes where they interact with Little.

The show will premiere at the Main Hall Hae of the National Theater of Korea on February 1.

Junsu was a former member of TVXQ, one of the most popular dance groups in the K-pop scene whose other members were composed of Kim Jae-joong, Park Yoo-chun, Changmin Lee Changmin and U-Know Yunhho.

After suspending his activities with TVXQ over a legal conflict regarding their contract, he formed a three-member boy band named JYJ composed of Park Yoo-chun and Kim Jae-joong.
