KCC Chief Agrees on Need for TV License Fee Hike

2010/03/18 | 135 views | Permalink | Source

The head of the Korea Communications Commission (KCC) has reaffirmed his approval for a license fee hike for the state-run Korea Broadcasting System (KBS), citing the need to secure more financial resources for the broadcaster.

KCC chief Choi Si-jung on Thursday told a forum that the license fees should be considered as a price to enjoy culture, not just a price paid to have viewing privileges.

Households with TV sets are obliged to pay 25-hundred won in license fees a month to KBS for viewing rights. It's been set at 25-hundred won since 1981.
