"King and the Clown" tops box-office during New Year holiday

The epic film "The King and the Clown" topped the domestic box-office during the New Year holiday. The Korean Film Council said Jan. 2 that the movie had drawn 334,482 viewers from Dec. 30 to Jan. 1, according to the council's tally network that covers 178 theaters and 1213 screens and has a penetration rate of 81 percent.

Since its opening on Dec. 29, "The King and the Clown" has received rave reviews from both critics and viewers, luring 200,000 viewers on the day of its opening.

The runner-up was the Hollywood fantasy blockbuster "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe", which drew 242,798 moviegoers, mostly children and their parents.

Another Hollywood blockbuster, "King Kong", finished third in terms of box-office performance. It drew 2,087,268 viewers since its opening in Korea, including 205,507 moviegoers who watched the movie last weekend.

The Romantic Comedy "The Art of Seduction", starring Son Ye-jin and Song Il-kook, scored 142,518 viewers, finishing fourth, while "Typhoon", starring Jang Dong-gun and Lee Jung-jae, finished fifth with 129,274 viewers.
