A host of celebrations will take place throughout the country including a ceremony to be held at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts in central Seoul where some 3-thousand people including the families of those who fought for Korea's independence as well as social leaders and foreign diplomats will take part.

President Lee Myung-bak is also expected to attend the ceremony and deliver a speech during which he is likely to call on North Korea to join the wave for peace and co-prosperity as the South is ready for dialogue with the communist neighbor.
We'll be bringing you President Lee's speech live at 10 a.m. local time.
