K-pop superstar Rain performed at a concert celebrating the inaugural Conference on Dialogue of Asian Civilizations in Beijing on Wednesday.

It marks the first major performance of a Korean star in China since political tensions over the deployment of a Terminal High-Altitutde Area Defense battery caused the Chinese government to order a ban on Korean performers there back in 2016.

Nearly all Korean films, TV soaps and adverts featuring Korean stars were frozen out.

Rain was the only Korean singer on stage Wednesday and appeared alongside performers from China, Israel, Singapore and Vietnam and sang Chinese songs with them.
