Korean Animation to be Exported to Japan

2006/03/29 | 481 views | Permalink | Source

A Korean-made animation will be exported to the home of animation, Japan, at a good price.

G&G Entertainment said Wednesday that it had signed a contract with Japanese CCC, the largest video and record distribution network, for the distribution of its animation "Sorry, I Love You". The contract price of W80 million (8 million yen) is the highest that any Korean animation exported to Japan has received, and it is only the minimum amount guaranteed. The original "Sorry, I Love You" was a hit TV drama broadcast in 2004.

It is unprecedented that a Korean-made animation is being sold to Japan--a seemingly impenetrable market when it comes to animation-- even before it is completed. "The original drama was so well-made that we feel highly pressured, but we are doing our best to produce a high-quality picture", Mo Sang-jun, a G&G producer said. "In another rare case, we are planning to release its original sound track".

The 30-minute animation will show highlights of the original drama for 13 minutes. For the rest of the 17 minutes, an added story will unfold about what happens for a year after the main male character dies until the main female character takes her own life. The animation will be released on the internet here in early June.
