Korean blockbuster "Detective K" takes number 10 spot in international box office

Korean blockbuster "Detective K" is reaping success not only in its motherland but also in the international scene, as it broke into the international box office's top 10 on its second week run.

According to American news agency Associated Press, "Detective K"'s gross sales amounted to $7,616,442 over the weekend of February 4. This enabled the comedy-mystery movie to land on the number 10 spot at the international box office, despite being shown only in South Korea. All other top contenders were shown in multiple countries.

This is "Detective K"'s second week in the top 20 international box office chart. On its opening weekend from January 28 to 31, the movie finished number 18 with $4,246,587 gross ticket sales.

"Detective K" stars acclaimed actor Kim Myung-min as the great detective, with Oh Dal-soo as his witty assistant and Han Ji-min as the sultry business magnate. The movie revolves around the detective duo's secret investigation into a series of murders plaguing 18th century Korea.

The movie helmed by veteran comedy director Kim Seok-yoon was released in South Korean theaters nationwide on January 27. International screening will kick-off in the United States in March.
