2005/08/29 Source

The Culture and Public Information Center of the Korean Embassy in Washington, D.C. will hold the "Second Washington, D.C. Korean Film Festival" from September 9 through October 20, with the purpose of raising Americans' interest in Korean culture and publicizing the development of the film industry in Korea.

The upcoming Korean film festival will be hosted jointly by the Korean Culture and Public Information Center and the Smithsonian Freer Gallery of Art. According to the Culture and Public Information Center on August 27 (local time), an opening ceremony will be held at the Freer Gallery of Art's Theater on the afternoon of September 9, immediately followed by the showing of "Arahan" (2004, directed by Ryoo Seung-wan) as its first program.

What is noteworthy in the upcoming film festival is that the majority of the total of 13 Korean films to be shown have been produced by young directors who made their debut since the 1990s.

From September 16 to late October last year, the Culture and Public Information Center showed a total of 33 Korean movies at six cinemas in the Washington, D.C. area, attracting more than 4,000 viewers in total. The upcoming film festival this year is the second of its kind.
