Korean Erotic Films Get Their Due

Erotic films have passed their days at the bottom of the cinematic food chain. Erotic movies, which take a large proportion of the B grade movies along with horror and action films, are usually similar in their plots. However, critics and die-hard fans now recognize that such movies have hidden in them the changes of the times, and erotic films are being seen in a different light. The Korean Film Archive will screen 13 representative love movies from the late 1960s to late 1980s.
During the event, which is titled "Eroticism in Korean movies", movies such as Kim Soo-yong's 1967 film "Flame in the Valley" (Korean: Sanbul), Kim Ho-sun's 1977 "Winter Woman" (Korean: Gyeo-ul Yeoja) and 1979 "Sleep Deeper Than Death" (Korean: Jukeum Boda Gipeun Jam), Jeong In-yeob's 1982 classic "Madame Aema" (Korean: Aema Buin), Lee Jang-ho's 1984 "Between the Knees" (Korean: Mureup Gwa Mureup Sa-i) and Park Yong-jun's 1985 "Last Tango in Seoul" (Korean: Seoul-eseo Majimak Taengo) will be introduced to the public.

The movies will be put on screen three times a day -- at 2:30 p.m., 5:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. -- from April 18 to 22 at the preview room of the Seoul Arts Center's Korean Film Archive. Admissions for the movies will be W 2000.
