Korean film, '3-Iron' is being well received in Brazil

2005/08/29 Source

Korean film, '3-Iron (Bin Jip, 2004)' directed by Kim Ki-duk appeals with its unique story at the 16th Sao Paulo International Short Film Festival in Brazil.

The Sao Paulo International Short Film Festival brings every year a great diversity of shorts in the International Programs, with titles from all over the world, an interesting Latin American Showcase and large display of Brazilian shorts in the Brazilian Programs.

According to local media coverage, '3-Iron' is introduced as the very film for which director Kim Ki-duk had received Best Director awards at the Venice Film Festival in 2004. Recently, Fip Resci (International Critics Association) has selected it as the best film of the year.

In the film, a man fills his days by breaking into homes while the owners are on vacation. He's not there to steal anything, yet just lives their lives a bit for them while they're gone. He eats their food, and even does a bit of their laundry. But things change one day when he enters a home that is not empty. Inside he finds the battered wife of an affluent businessman. The two then leave together, taking with them one of the businessman's golf clubs, and continue their odd lifestyle of living in other people's houses. But their benign transient existence is soon threatened when the woman's furious husband tracks them down and reports them to the police.

Local media says that the lead actor, Jae Hee and the actress, Lee Seung-yeon successfully deliver plenty of messages as if they would pantomime while being so much restrained from speaking.

The Sao Paulo International Short Film Festival runs from August 25 to September 3.
