Korean Films Record Attendance Rate of 66% in February

An analysis of box office sales conducted in February 2005 shows that, as of February, Korean films recorded the attendance rate of 65.9 percent, up 40 percent from the previous period. That increase is attributable to the success of Korean films such as "Marathon" and "Another Another Public Enemy005 - Public Enemey 2" as well as "My boyfriend is type-B", "The President's Last Bang", and "Pasongsong - My Son, My Enemy". Among imported films, "Constantine" gained significant popularity among moviegoers, unlike "Aviator", whose ticket sales turned out to be lower than expected.

In Seoul, the attendance rate dropped in the same period. It is likely that the number of moviegoers will continue to decline during the first quarter of the year. In February, the number of moviegoers in Seoul decreased by 7.9 percent over the same period, recording 4,462,395 people.

The report says that while the attendance rate has declined from last year, when "Taegukgi" was a big hit, it rose 19.7 percent compared with 2003. Given that the number of released films has increased, the attendance rate is considered to be recovering to its normal level.
