Korean Ginseng Medicine Looks to Markets Overseas

Here at one of the country's largest growers of red ginseng, production is now peaking with more than 170 tons of ginseng passing through each day.
On the production line, each precious root is meticulously inspected and prepared.
Only select 6-year-old ginseng plants are picked to be steamed and dried, in order to create its signature color.

The uncompromising and state-of-the-art manufacturing processes have paid off with approval from international food and pharmaceutical agencies.

[Interview : Lee Joong-chan, Goryeo Ginseng Product Manager Cheonjiyang Co. Ltd.] "We've received approval from the U.S. FDA as well as approval in Australia, Japan and other countries. Our manufacturing system has been certified for consumption and medical safety".

Scientific research of Korea's native ginseng has shown that the special root has a wide array of potential medical properties, such as anti-aging and cancer fighting effects.

And it seems word has been spreading overseas.
Korea's top health food brand, Cheongkwanjang red ginseng has seen its global exports nearly double this year compared to last.
The company recorded 115 million U.S. dollars in exports in the January to October period for the first time ever.

[Interview : Kwon Baek-jin, Public Relations Rep. Korea Ginseng Corp.] "Cheongkwanjang ginseng is being exported to 60 countries around the world. By opening overseas retail stores, we plan to increase exports".

By rapidly modernizing its manufacturing equipment and expanding its marketing, Korean herbal medicine companies are aiming to further their gains in global markets and eventually become a household name not only at home but abroad.
