Korean pop star on 'Billboard' cover

Korean music producer and singer J.Y. Park has become the first Korean to appear on the cover of the prestigious U.S. magazine "Billboard", which is dedicated to the music industry.

J.Y. Park, who produced the Korean heartthrob singer Rain, appeared on the cover of the June 16th edition of Billboard.

The cover is actually an advertisement page of the weekly magazine. The magazine has given out the cover page to artists or companies who the magazine thinks can live up to the reputation of "Billboard".

Publishers of the magazine say the process to select the cover artists is very competitve. They add that if artists seeking the cover do not meet their expectations, they forgo the ad revenue and design their own cover.

J.Y. Park was the first Asian to contribute to the production of albums by world-famous pop stars such as Will Smith and Mason Durell Betha.

Also, the June 16th edition ran an advertisement for new Korean female artist Min, who is to release an album co-produced by J.Y. Park and the top American hip hop producer Lil Jon.

JYP Entertainment, the company run by J.Y. Park, says Park plans to expand his activities in the U.S. and intends to open an office in New York City on June 20.
