Synopsis

"Mask Girl" is a story about Kim Mo-mi, an ordinary office worker by day who is insecure about her appearance and a live-streamer by night who covers up her face with a mask, as she becomes embroiled in an unforeseen incident and undergoes a dramatic turn of events. The original webtoon of the same title that the series is based on was beloved by many readers for its unpredictable twists, biting messages about lookism, and the effortless cross between thriller and black comedy. Actors Go Hyun-jung and Nana play the character Kim Mo-mi on different timelines while Ahn Jae-hong plays Kim Mo-mi's colleague Joo Oh-nam, who has a crush on her, and Yeom Hye-ran plays Joo Oh-nam's mother. Director Kim Yong-hoon-I, who drew the attention of the world with his feature debut "Beasts Clawing at Straws", which won the Special Jury Award at the 49th International Film Festival Rotterdam, directs the series to deliver refreshing plot developments and a shocking story.

Kim Mo-mi's childhood dream was to become a celebrity, but she ends up working in an office, constantly self-conscious about her appearance. Her childhood dream may have been dashed, but Mo-mi is delighted as she attracts the attention that she has always craved by turning herself into Mask Girl, an online streamer who keeps her face covered with a mask.

"It was right then. The moment she became special."

Mo-mi's colleague, Joo Oh-nam, is just as self-conscious about his looks and is practically invisible at work. Oh-nam's only source of joy is watching online broadcasts, and he notices that Mask Girl is in fact Mo-mi.

"It was right then, when I made up my mind. To go and find my son."

Fate has not been kind to Kim Kyeong-ja, a divorcée whose child is her only hope. But one day, her dear son is nowhere to be found. Kyeong-ja pulls herself together and looks for any sign of her son, and realizes that everything leads to Mask Girl.

But Mo-mi has already vanished into thin air. Eluding Kyeong-ja, Mo-mi completely changes her appearance and name as she goes in search of the dazzling life of her dreams.

This is the beginning of the eventful tale of 'Mask Girl', the girl who wanted to be loved and be beautiful more than anyone else.
