The Passport Index updated by Arton Capital on Wednesday estimated that Singapore has the "most powerful" passport out of 199 countries with the highest visa-free score of 159.

This is the first time an Asian country has taken the top spot on the index. The firm ranks passports on the basis of the number of countries they can visit visa-free or with visa on arrival.

Singapore moved up a spot from early this year after Paraguay removed visa restrictions for the country. Germany fell to second with 158.

Korea rose from sixth place to tie with Sweden in third with 157. Denmark, Finland, France, Italy, Japan, Norway, Spain and the U.K. tied for fourth place with 156.

The U.S. plunged to sixth along with three other countries with a score of 154 after Turkey revoked its visa-free status for U.S. passport holders.
