The drama "Shall We Kiss First" describes itself as a "Real Adult Romance". What better person to portray the inexperienced love story of an experienced adult than our dear actress Kim Sun-ah? Here she is, making yet another drama to become one of our favorites.
Kim Sun-ah possesses multiple talents, from playing the piano to photography, Jeet Kune Do, and her fluency in foreign language including Japanese and English.
Her childhood greatly contirubted to her wide range of talents as her family moved to Japan for 6 years after she graduated elementary school. In 1992, she debuted as a pianist and moved to USA in 1993 to study piano at Ball State University.
In 1996, Kim Sun-ah visited Korea during a summer break and was casted as a model. Her debut in the Korean entertainment industry was sudden and she struggled in the beginning as she was not comfortable in speaking Korean after many years of using Japanese and English as her primary language. However, once she made her decision to become an actress, she studied and practiced Korean until she felt confident in her language skills.
One of her favorite pastime activities is photography. She actually enjoys taking photos of her fellow cast and staff members in action and printing them out at the end of each show. Then, she gifts those photos to everyone as a thank-you gift for their hard work. From taking the pictures to carefully selecting them and editing them, she puts her most sincere gratitude into these thoughtful gifts. Many of her co-stars such as Na Moon-hee, Cha Seung-won, Rain and many more have received these lovely presents and cherish them to this day.
Her last talent I must mention is Jeet Kune Do. Jeet Kune Do is a hybrid philosophy of martial arts heavily influenced by the personal philosophy and experience of martial artist Bruce Lee. Though she is most famous for her romance comedy shows, she is one of the few Korean actresses who is capable of making a good action scene. In fact, she often takes the fight scenes herself, without any stuntwomen.
Kim Sun-ah started Jeet Kune Do with her good friend Jang Hyuk. It is famous that these two celebrities are best of friends as they learned acting under the same teacher. The two share not only their acting teacher, but also shares their interest in martial arts and close debut date. Kim Sun-ah once mentioned that although she and Jang Hyuk don't chat or meet up a lot, they still rely on each other.
According to the netizens, the three grand romcom queens who've risen in and ruled the 2000's era are Kim Ha-neul, Gong Hyo-jin, and Kim Sun-ah. In fact, many producers and directors choose Kim Sun-ah as their favorite romcom heroine. She usually plays a 'gold miss' character, which is the Korean term for the older unmarried woman with a high socioeconomic status and level of education. Since she has played in so many romcoms, she had the great pleasure of acting with the finest actors, including Gong Yoo, Hyun Bin, Daniel Henney, Lee Dong-wook, Lee Dong-gun, Park Ki-woong, Lee Jang-woo, and many more.
Though Kim Sun-ah is one of the most famous romcom queen of K-drama world, she is the ultimate reliable all-round player. From comical character to romance, sexy, and even charismatic villainess, there's not a character she can't portray perfectly in her own way. She is one of those actresses whose acting viewers consider trustworthy. Even without knowing anything about the show's storyline, the viewers will start watching the show when they learn that Kim Sun-ah is starring.
