[Lily's Weekly Highlights] Park Hyung-sik

Is there anybody else out there who almost fainted after watching this fine actor in the new KBS drama "Suits"? That sounded really dramatic of me, but I'm not exaggerating. Park Hyung-sik gets more and more handsome after each drama that he stars in. I thought it was impossible for him to get cuter after his last show, "Strong Woman Do Bong-soon", but he did.

A handsome man in fitted suits is the all-time ultimate dream-come-true for me, and "Suits" has put not just one, but two handsome men in sophisticated, classy suits. Jang Dong-gun and Park Hyung-sik is winning the heart of all the women out there already by just the first episode aired, I wonder what bigger impact they will have once the show starts progressing. If you are not familiar with Park Hyung-sik, don't you worry because I'm about to take you on the Park Hyung-sik trivia trip! I bet you'll soon fall in love with him as all of we Park Hyung-sik fans did!

As you can see in the profile, his religion is Buddhism, which runs deeply in the family. His mom and grandma are especially faithful, as they requested a monk to name Park Hyung-sik when he was born. 'Hyung' means 'shine/glow' and 'sik' means 'planted'. His destiny sure took a path upon his name since he is shining brightly where he was planted and became a star that represent Korea.

His debut was through the K-pop boy group, 'ZE:A'. 'ZE:A' is a group consisting of nine members total, with members familiar to many K-drama fans such as Im Si-wan, Kim Dong-jun, and Hwang Kwanghee. Since Park Hyung-sik is one of the visual members in the group, people assumed that he wouldn't be the best at singing, but he broke such prejudice by declaring his position as a main vocalist in the group. In fact, he was also the main vocalist of the school rock band in middle school.

Until 2013, he was not the most known member of the group, but with his appearance in the drama "Nine: Time Travelling Nine Times" and the variety show "Real Men", he quickly rose into the stardom. "Real Men" was especially a great choice in his career as his 'foodie baby soldier' character was widely loved. This variety show puts several celebrities in the military camp and observe their training and life style for about few weeks each season. Park Hyung-sik's nick name was 'baby soldier' since he was the youngest and most naive member of his season.

His lunch and dinner scenes were so popular because of the ridiculous amount of food he eats after all the training. Though it is understandable since the military trainings are such an energy-drainer, his food intake often surprised other members. Also, every time he eats, his genuine happiness spreading on his face made every viewer smile. One netizen commented, there's a difference in eating well and eating happily and Park Hyung-sik is the definition of a happy eater.

From "Real Men", he gained a precious friendship with the fellow cast members of the show, Kim Soo-ro and Jang Hyuk. Once, actor Kim Min-jong shared that Kim Soo-ro and Jang Hyuk called him to put in a good word for Park Hyung-sik when he and Kim Min-jong were casted for a musical together.

Since Park Hyung-sik is the youngest in most situations that he is in (his family, 'ZE:A', "Real Men"), he often functions as the peacemaker and the mood booster of the group. His adorable aegyo melts the heart of everyone around him. His peacemaking characteristic is well-shown in his life motto, which is "Let's love all around". He has spoken about it in many interviews before, as he says that his wish is for this world to be more loving.

In the beginning of his career, he kept a long hairstyle but after appearing in "Real Men", he changed it to short hair. Many people were shocked to find out how attractive Park Hyung-sik became once he cut his hair. Though I love him with all my heart, I do think the long hairstyle is not for him.

He has a baby face but behind that baby face, he has an undeniable charisma, which is a great feature for an actor. It enables him to take on different characters ranging from mischievous boy Jo Myeong-soo in "The Heirs" to the serious royal blood Sam-maek-jong in "Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth". Though many K-pop singers who've turned to acting are exposed to heavy criticism, Park Hyung-sik is one of the few cases who's praised highly for a balanced acting skill.

Speaking of his character Jo Myeong-soo in "The Heirs", he was also widely loved for this role as he often gave a refreshing laughter to the viewers with his sparkling personality. This is a fan-made 40 seconds video of him that's guaranteed to make everyone happy. It's called "Teehee Party", and I just had to share it with everyone. Enjoy. You're welcome.

Though he debuted to the industry as a singer, he shared that right now he is more focused on his acting career. As far as singing goes, he will occasionally greet the viewers with OSTs in dramas, but doesn't have a definite plan on returning with his own music. Also, his group 'ZE:A' has not officially released a statement on their disbandment, but it will be nearly impossible for them to get back together in the group since everyone left on each separate path when their contracted ended in 2016. However, Park Hyung-sik also shared that all the members are still like a family to him and they keep in touch on a regular basis.
