Marathon Man Hwang Finds Partner for Life

Olympic gold medalist marathoner Hwang Young-cho will marry a computer science graduate from Ewha Womans University, probably in early December.

Hwang won the grueling event at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona and now serves as coach of the marathon team of the Korea Sports Promotion Foundation. His fiancée is working as a high school teacher.

"I met a really nice woman through an older friend in my hometown (Samcheok, Gangwon Province) and we have decided to tie the knot", said Hwang.

"We are thinking of early December, just before the winter training begins for the team", he said.

"I have spent most of my life alone, which the marathon is a good metaphor for. But I plan on spending the rest of my time happily married to my wife, while also doing my best to nurture talented junior marathoners".

Hwang also won gold in the 1991 Summer Universiade in England and at the 1994 Asian Games in Hiroshima, Japan.
