A renowned English film music composer Michael Nyman (60) will be in charge of directing the music for a film production. The movie he will participate in is director Kim Ki-duk's next movie "3-Iron" (Korean: Binjip), which will start filming on July 2. When the two people met on June 9, director Kim Ki-duk received a proposal from Michael Nyman that he was interested in directing the music for Kim's movie.
Nyman is a great artist who is best known for his successful musical scores in Jane Campion's "The Piano", and Peter Greenaway's "The Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her Lover". At the end of last month, he came to Korea for a performance. During his press conference, he said, "I saw Kim Ki-duk's film 'Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... And Spring', and it was great". With this response the LG Arts Center, the sponsor of the performance, invited Kim to the performance held on June 8, on behalf of Nyman's request and arranged a gathering for the two people.

During the two-hour conversation, Nyman showed curiosity about Kim's next movie and said he wanted to take charge of his film's music. Director Kim said, "Due to our production costs, we can only give you US$1 million". Nyman responded, "Money isn't important", and made his thoughts clear that money wouldn't be an issue.

Kim replied that he didn't know much about Michael Nyman's music but after participating in the performance, he was very impressed. He also said "It's the first time working with a foreign musician, so I'm really looking forward to it". Kim will entrust the music to Nyman by sending on-the-spot film cuts, right after he finishes the filming at the end of July.

The movie "Empty House" attracted US$1 million in investment from Japan. For Kim, with these investments, the movie will be a virtual "blockbuster". The movie tells the story of a man whose whole fortune is a motorcycle who lives his life moving from empty house to empty house. By chance, he saves a woman who was held prisoner in one of the empty houses. After the rescue, they wander around the country together.

The actors have all been cast, and a production schedule will be announced soon.
