Monsoon Off to a Dry Start

The monsoon season has officially started but there has been hardly any rain for the last four days.

The Korea Meteorological Administration said proper rains will start around July 10.

There has been no rain across the country since last Saturday because the Ohotsk high-pressure front that developed in the northwest caused the seasonal rain front to move south to the southern Japanese islands.

Instead, temperatures have soared past 30 degrees Celsius.

Weather officials issued a heat advisory on Thursday in Seoul and surrounding Gyeonggi Province, Daegu and North Gyeongsang and Gangwon provinces.

The day's high is forecast at 32 degrees in Seoul, 33 degress in Chuncheon and 34 in Daegu.

The KMA said the monsoon typically brings around 15 days of rainfall and a 10-day gap is rare.
