The monsoon started in Jeju and central parts on the same day for the first time in 12 years. Normally it starts earlier in the south.

More than 80 mm of precipitation fell in Jeju, where a heavy rain warning was issued early Wednesday morning. South Jeolla and South Gyeongsang provinces saw 10-50 mm of rain, North Jeolla and North Gyeongsang 5-40 mm, and the Chungcheong provinces just 5 mm.

Rains will let up gradually on Thursday and resume on Saturday.

The monsoon will last some 32 days and bring up to 366 mm of rain this year, somewhat longer than last year's but around average.
