Two out of three women are found to think that they are not safe from sexual violence. According to a survey conducted by Global Research at the request of the Security and Public Administration Ministry on Friday, 66.9 percent of adult women and 67.9 percent of female middle and high school students replied they feel unsecure due to possibility to fall victim to sexual violence.

More than half (54.3 percent) of adults including males replied that Korean society is not safe from sexual violence. Notably, the respondents cited the most as the cause of sexual violence insufficient punishment of the perpetrators and efforts to prevent repeated offense (62.2 percent of adults and 76.9 percent of middle and high school students).

As for overall security level of Korean society, only 24.2 percent of adults and 19.7 percent of middle and high school students replied it is safe. The survey was conducted in 1,000 adults, 1,000 middle and high school students and 100 experts to measure the level of perceived safety among Koreans.
