Navy's rescue operation against Somali pirates to be made into film

A film production company said Tuesday that a commando rescue operation that freed a South Korean freighter from Somali pirates in the Arabian Sea last month will be made into a movie this year, according to a news report.

"We will invest 20 billion won ($18 million) in making a film version of the military operation with the best crew", said Christmas Entertainment, which produced the mega-hit "The Host", which drew 13 million viewers in 2006.

The movie for the military operation, codenamed "The Dawn in the Gulf of Aden", will be distributed globally, the company added.

It said that work on the film will start up in September and that it is expected to be released in February next year, Yonhap news agency said.

The Samho Jewelry and its 21 crew members including eight South Koreans were hijacked by Somali pirates in mid-January in the Arabian Sea. South Korean naval special forces stormed the ship on Jan. 21 and rescued all the crew members alive, while killing eight pirates and capturing five others alive.



'아덴만의 여명' 영화로 만들어진다

한 영화제작사는 8일 아라비아해에서 소말리아 해적들에게 납치된 삼호주얼리호 선원들에 대한 우리 군의 구출 작전 '아덴만의 여명'을 금년에 영화로 만든다고 밝혔다고 연합뉴스가 전했다.

2006년 1,300만 관객을 동원한 영화 '괴물'에 투자했던 ㈜크리스마스 엔터테인먼트는 최고의 스태프로 제작비 약 200억 원을 투입 군의 구출 작전을 영화로 제작할 것이라고 말했다.

"아덴만의 여명"으로 이름 붙여진 군사작전을 소재로 한 이 영화는 전 세계에 배급될 것이라고 제작사는 덧붙였다.

제작사는 오는 9월께 크랭크인 해서 내년 2월 개봉을 예상하고 있다고 밝혔다.
