New Dong-A TV channel to start airing from 2nd half

2011/04/21 | Permalink | Source

The Dong-A Ilbo's "Channel A" will begin general TV programming from the second half of the year.

The Korea Communications Commission approved the application submitted by Channel A at a general meeting Wednesday. The commission`s broadcast policy director Kim Jun-sang said, "The Dong-A Ilbo paid 407.6 billion won (376 million U.S. dollars) in capital and completed the establishment of a programming unit. Inspection by the advisory board of outside experts found no reason for disqualification".

The commission will issue a letter of approval to Channel A Thursday. Approval will expire after three years and the channel must start general programming within a year upon receipt of the approval letter.

The broadcast regulator also said Channel A should faithfully carry out its business plan including taking public responsibility, distributing quantity and quality contents, and fair trading of contents. The channel must also fill more than 60 percent of its broadcast time with domestically produced programs.

After receiving a license late last year to operate a general programming channel, Dong-A held a foundation meeting on April 7 and established Channel A. An application for approval was submitted the next day.

Channel A will begin Thursday open recruitment of those experienced in TV production and contents, news production including reporters and video editing, broadcast technology, marketing, advertising and management.
