Ok's agency JYP Entertainment said he entered boot camp in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province on Monday afternoon to start his 21-month military service.

"He wanted to keep it quiet, as he believes he is doing his duty as an ordinary citizen, not as a celebrity. He received a send-off from his family and band mates", the agency added.

Determined to serve in the military, Ok gave up his U.S. green card and underwent two back operations to be cleared for active duty. Otherwise, he would only have been deemed fit for some form of substitute service at public agencies.

Ok made his debut with 2PM in 2008. Since 2010 he has also worked as an actor, most recently starring in the OCN TV series "Save Me".
