"Old Partner" Climbs into Top Ten

Opening on just seven screens January 15, the independent documentary "Old Partner" is climbing up the charts. As word of mouth and favorable reviews spread, the film entered the box office top ten for the weekend ending Feb 1 and is now showing on 21 screens.

Directed by Lee Chung-ryoul, the documentary is about the 30-year friendship between a loyal old cow and its octogenarian owners, a humble farmer and his feisty wife. It held its world premiere at the Pusan International Film Festival last year where is won the Mecenat Award for best documentary.

During the Lunar New Year holidays, the film attracted 26,000 viewers and its total admissions as of Feb 2 are now surpassing 40,000. It had is North American premiere at the 25th Sundance Film Festival, which ran Jan 15 – 25. "Old Partner" was the first Korean documentary to be invited to the fest's official competition.

The film was a recipient of KOFIC's 2008 Marketing Support for Diversity program and its Subtitling and Print Production support fund.
