After two years of renovation, there's finally new life at the former Seoul Station, which was left in disrepair for a number of years after the new Seoul Station opened in 2004.
The old Seoul Station had served as the cultural hub and gateway to the Korean capital city since 1925.
And on Tuesday, it was reborn under the name "Culture Station Seoul 284", which refers to the building's National Historic Site designation No. 284.

[Interview : Choung Byoung-gug, Minister Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism ] "Since its opening in 1925, the old Seoul Station has been reborn into Culture Station Seoul 284. I'm very excited to see that this station has grown into a cultural station with the country's rich history behind it and is now traveling towards a bright future via culture".

On this day, over 2-hundred guests took part in the opening ceremony, congratulating the re-launching of the station as an exhibition and performance space.
They also got the chance to enjoy various cultural performances and artworks of 24 artists showcased at the center.
And the President of the Korea Craft and Design Foundation, Choi Jeong-sim, says she hopes that the new space has added to the future vitality and livability of Seoul by restoring this magnificent building.

[Interview : Choi Jeong-sim, President Korea Craft & Design Foundation] "A train station is a place that is open to everyone. So I hope that this special venue will be turned into a place that generates creative ideas for the future and that this concept of a culture station will spread to other train stations as well".

Previously, the first floor of the former station housed the train terminal's main lobby, a waiting room, and a VIP room, while the second floor featured guest rooms and restaurants.
Post-renovation, the first floor has been turned into a venue for performances, exhibitions and events, while the second floor will be used as a multipurpose hall.

[Reporter : Lee Ji-yoon, jiyoonjlee@arirang.co.kr] "After officially opening to the public this Thursday, Culture Station Seoul 284 will host a six-month exhibition titled "Countdown" featuring various exhibitions, performances, and films.
