[Orion's Daily Ramblings] From Bad Guy to Cute Guy, Kim Sang-joong Becomes "The Banker" in First Teaser and Poster

MBC's upcoming financial investigation drama, "The Banker", is gearing up for main promotions, and aside from a dark and moody character poster, we get an incredibly cheeky and cute first teaser. Goo-tak of "Bad Guys" is out, Dae-ho of "The Banker" is in, and you'd be a fool to mess with either.

I love it when productions play around with iconic characters, and I would be shocked if that is not what "The Banker" intended to do with Kim Sang-joong's famous "Bad Guys" look in this first main promotional video. The image of the Mad Dog himself appears to fight injustice, but the puppy is now hidden in a lot sweeter a packaging. Dae-ho fixes his tie, sleeks his hair back, and makes his cutesy entrance to work, against all resistance. You have my heart already, series.

The mood shifts to a darker one for the first character poster released, lest we forget that Dae-ho is more than a sweetheart with an adorable audit team. The man is clearly at his desk after hours, going through documents while looking troubled. The tagline reads 'The truth will be revealed'. The poster conveys what the production calls "the story of Noh Dae-ho's struggle to find the truth and justice hidden within Daehan Bank".

Between the preview videos and the first teaser, the drama presents itself as a sort of underdog story with some light-hearted material alongside its darker subject matter. Are we getting something like "Neighborhood Lawyer Jo Deul-ho", where comedic shenanigans co-exist with a fierce battle? Because I'd be all for that. "The Banker" premieres on March 27th.
