[Orion's Daily Ramblings] Lee Elijah, Kim Jung-tae and Kim Yoonji Join "The Last Empress"

I said that I'd be back with more on the supporting cast of "The Last Empress", and here are three members of it. Lee Elijah and Kim Jung-tae have confirmed their imperial roles in this modern monarchy drama, while Kim Yoonji joins our heroine's side as a fellow musical actress and rival. If you missed the post on the premise and main cast, you can check it out here.

Lee Elijah is playing Min Yoo-ra, the imperial head secretary. She is a quick-witted worker who is perfect at her job, and has the complete trust of emperor Lee Hyeok (Shin Sung-rok). Her character will also raise tensions through her confrontational relationship with the empress dowager (Shin Eun-kyung).

Kim Jung-tae will play the right-hand man of the emperor, Ma Pil-joo. Pil-joo is Lee Hyeok's problem solver, whose only principle is doing everything and anything for money. He has tenacity, and a scary obsession with never letting go of what he is after.

For the sake of the emperor, and of course his money, he is willing to do anything, from rumor mill spinning to assault. Kim Jung-tae feels that this may turn out to be the meanest character he has played yet, and that makes Pil-joo sound particularly nasty, given some of the characters the actor has portrayed in the past.

Then we have a new character on Oh Sunny's (Jang Nara) side. Kim Yoonji plays Hyeon-joo, our heroine's junior colleague and a musical actress within her troupe. She originally ignores Sunny for being a no-name actress, but becomes jealous when the latter turns into the nation's Cinderella. Her character is expected to bring tension to the drama.

Everyone sounds like a peach in this series, and given its hinted, royally messed up conflicts, I'd say that's an appropriate approach. "The Last Empress" will reportedly begin its broadcast in November, on SBS.
