[Orion's Daily Ramblings] Park Ji-young Tackles Yanbian Region Dialect in "Wok of Love"

Great news for fans of Park Ji-young, as the actress makes her return to the side of writer Seo Sook-hyang after "Don't Dare to Dream". She will be playing the chef who dominates the kitchen of the Chinese restaurant, which is the main setting of the drama "Wok of Love".

Her character, Chae Seol-ja, came to Korea 25 years ago from the Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture (Yeonbyeon, 연변, in Korean). The actress will put aside her more classy appearances for a "more macho than men" style, a phrase which makes me cringe myself into a quantum singularity with its problematic gendered associations.
Cringe-worthy descriptions aside, Park Ji-young has been studying the dialect, as well as cooking, in order to prepare for her role. After my experience with her in "Falsify" and "Save Me", I call any production that has her mighty blessed.
"Wok of Love" has already confirmed its leads, Jang Hyuk, Jung Ryeo-won, and Lee Junho, and it will be following "Shall We Kiss First" in May, on SBS.
