An Environment Ministry official discussed with Philippine officials on Mindanao on June 13 how to dispose of the remaining 5,177 tons of trash a recycling company in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province had smuggled to the Philippines last July, a ministry spokesman said Wednesday.

Out of the total of 6,200 tons of plastic waste camouflaged as recycled materials, some 1,200 tons that had been intercepted in a Philippine port were sent back to Korea in March.

The rest sat abandoned on private property but will now be packed up and sent back.
