Police have filed for an arrest warrant for singer Jung Joon-young on charges of secretly filming sex tapes and sharing them on social media.

Police summoned Jung for questioning on Sunday and grilled him until the following morning. It was the second time the star was questioned by police. Last Thursday right after the allegations arose, he turned himself in to the police after returning from the U.S.

Investigators obtained incriminating evidence by raiding a smartphone data recovery lab, the singer's house, and the home of a group chat member identified as Kim, who said in one chat he saw Big Bang's Seungri's business partner identified as Yu exchange texts with a senior officer at the National Police Agency.

In a separate case, Seungri and Yu are accused of pimping, and aiding and abetting drug peddling and sexual abuse at their nightclub Burning Sun.

Police have also filed an arrest warrant for Kim, who worked at the nightclub Arena where Seungri is believed to have set up potential investors with escorts.

Jung was already investigated in August 2016 and December last year on similar charges. In 2016, police sent the case to state prosecutors recommending indictment, but an alleged victim of a hidden-camera tape withdrew her complaint and the case was dropped.

The scandal finally came to light through an elementary error Jung made by taking his phone to a repair shop, where the technician promptly leaked secretly filmed sex tapes still stored on the phone to a lawyer and a reporter at SBS.

Acting on a tip-off that the data recovery lab where Jung's phone was sent during the 2016 investigation did have illicit sex tapes filmed by Jung, police in December applied for a search warrant, but prosecutors rejected it.

Police are also investigating the lawyer who represented Jung back in 2016, who falsely told them that he had been informed by the data-recovery lab that the contents of Jung's smartphone were irrecoverable.

But there were also suggestions from the group chat that it was in fact senior police officers who were watching the celebrities' back and helped bury the investigation.

One police superintendent identified as Yoon has now been booked.

Yoon worked for Gangnam police from January 2015 to January of 2016 but was then transferred to the presidential civil affairs office, and had dinner and played golf with Seungri, his business partner and FT Island singer Choi Jong-hoon, who was part of Seungri's group chat.

Police believe he remained in close contact with his celebrity buddies until late last year.

Meanwhile, President Moon Jae-in has called for thorough investigation of scandals and corruption involving the rich and famous.
